Free admission at Potala Palace begins
As part of the “Winter Tourism in Tibet” program, admission at the Potala Palace is free from November 1st through March 15th of 2019, according to the tourism department of Tibet. During this period, tourists could use their identification cards to obtain free visitors’ tickets at the ticket window.
During the past years, from May 1st through October 31st, the ticket price for the palace is 200 yuan, while off-season price is 100 yuan from November 1st through April 30th of the following year. During the free admission period, in order to maintain orderly visits, when visitors exceed 5000 per day, emergency measures would be implemented, which includes using No. 2 visitor route, newly opened in August, allowing an additional 2000 visitors. If the number of visitors exceeded 7000, then the Palace would be closed to further visitors.
