At Lhatse Town Central Primary School in Lhatse County, Xigaze City, Xizang, hundreds of students gather joyfully in the central open space after the second class of the morning. Soon, the melodious background music of Duixie fill the air.

This is the school’s specialexercise break, held for 15 minutes every morning and alternated with the regular recess exercise. Lhatse Duixie, an ancient Tibetan dance of rhythmic kicks and taps, is a nationally recognized intangible cultural heritage item and a popular form of song-and-dance performance among the local people of Lhatse. Since 2013, Lhatse Town Central Primary School has introduced this traditional performance onto campus and established dedicated Duixie classes. Every Thursday, the school assigns dedicated instructors to provide hands-on guidance in its dance techniques, gradually integrating the tradition of Duixie into the daily life of both teachers and students of the school.
