On February 20, the third day of the Tibetan New Year of the Fire Horse, Kyag Village in Zangdog Township, Dagze District, Lhasa, Xizang, was alive with festive energy: colorful flags fluttered in the breeze, and crowds bustled with excitement as a traditional yak racing competition—deeply rooted in local ethnic culture—was held in full swing, further enhancing the jubilant atmosphere of the Tibetan New Year. More than 20 yaks and competitors participated in the event, hailing from Kyag Village and neighboring communities across the surrounding area.

Dressed in vibrant, exquisitely crafted Tibetan festival attire, the competitors exuded vitality and high spirits. The racing yaks, too, were specially adorned for the occasion, with colorful ribbons tied to their horns and decorative ornaments suspended from their bodies, making a majestic and spirited entrance onto the race field. As a traditional folk activity of the Tibetan ethnic group, yak racing not only showcases distinctive features of agrarian and pastoral culture but also enriches the cultural lives of residents during festive celebrations.
