The Ice Blue of Lake Mapam Yumco

Lake Mapam Yumco lies peacefully between the main peak of the Gangdise Mountains—Mount Gang Rinpoche—and Mt. Nemonanyi of the Himalayas in Xizang. It has an average elevation of 4,588 meters. 


The lake covers a vast area of 412 square kilometers and reaches a maximum depth of over 81 meters. It is China’s freshwater lake with the highest measured water transparency—actual measurements show visibility up to 14 meters.
