As the biggest monastery in Shigatse Prefecture,Tibet Autonomous Region, Tashilhunpo Monastery is the traditional seat of generations of Panchen Lamas.
With more than 800 monks, Tashilhunpo Monastery is one of the four major monasteries of the Gelug sect together with Lhasa's Ganden Monastery, Sera Monastery and Drepung Monastery.
